Namaz aur Salaat ka Farq

We have been seeing various posts on different forums stating Namaz aur Salaat are two different things and many other wrong things, I asked one such person to present his case and he gave me the chapter of Mr. Ghulam Ahmed Perwez’s Book, the chapter can be found at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=372912912737467

Janab Parwez sahib ki personal life k mutaliq main yahan kuch nahin kahoon ga k baat topic say hat jaaye g, hence please note neechay di gayee tamam posts sirf aur sirf writer aur uss ki writing method ko discuss karti hain.

Writer has written an almost 21 page article stating that SALAAT aur NAMAZ main farq hai, unfortunately writer has (intentionally or un-intentionally) maintained high level of confusion in the whole topic, the writer presents various Ayats, but while translating these ayats, he deliberately “ALTERS” the translation. The article if seen as a whole has almost 30% content on sectism, which is beyond scope of this discussion, remaining 60% main without reference different words ki different translation claim ki gayee hain, which upon complete research came out as false, Ayat ki translation kartay hoye intentional confusion create ki gayee aur almost sub ayaat ko without context present kia gaya.

SALAAT word k 3 different meanings present kieye gaye, pehlay section main SALAAT ka mutlab ALLAH k AHKAAMAAT k agay sir jhukaana hai aur second section main SALAAT ka mutlab Ghareeboon ko Maal dena hai,,,  next section main SALAAT ka mutlab ALLAH ki RAZA k lie WAQT I MUQARARA pay IJTIMAA karna bhi kaha gaya ,, aur at the end, NAMAZ ki mojooda shakal ko Khilafat k qayam tak adaa karnay ka hukam b dia gaya hai. (Andaza kijeye confusion phelanay k tareeqoon ka)

Unfortunately upar di gayee summary inn hazraat ko qabool nahin ho g, hence below is given the LIST of ERRORs made in the article

Since the article is very confusing so is the rebuttal hence I would use RED color for the claims of Mr. Parwez and Black for my answers to those claims, Quranic Ayats and their translation is given in blue color.

First page pay

SALAAT ko SLW ki root say saabit kia gaya hai aur claim kia gaya hai k iss ka mutlab follow karna hai aur iss word ko specify karnay k lie Horse race main jo horse follow kar raha ho us ski nisbat say Musaleen kaha gaya,,,

The above CLAIM is totally wrong, SALAAT word ki root SLW ki root say nikla hai, lekin SLW ka word connection ki terms main use hota hai, horses wali example main b follow karnay walay horse ko Musali is lie kaha jata hai k THAT horse is trying to CONNECT the first HORSE, SLW ki root say nikalnay walay different words main MAWASALAT = means of transportation / communication, ETISALAT = TELECOMMUNICATION ,, WASAL = MILNA aata hai, For further information please refer to Lexicon and you can see the list.

On Page 4, the writer has given reference of Surah Haj Ayat 22:41:

الَّذِينَ إِن مَّكَّنَّاهُمْ فِي الْأَرْ‌ضِ أَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَمَرُ‌وا بِالْمَعْرُ‌وفِ وَنَهَوْا عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ‌ ۗ وَلِلَّـهِ عَاقِبَةُ الْأُمُورِ‌

یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جنہیں اگر ہم زمین میں اقتدار بخشیں تو وہ نماز قائم کریں گے، زکوٰۃ دیں گے، معروف کا حکم دیں گے اور منکر سے منع کریں گے اور تمام معاملات کا انجام کار اللہ کے ہاتھ میں ہے

Here the writer has changed the meaning of SALAAT first time and claims that SALAAT QAYIM tub he ho sakti hai jub MOMIN IQTIDAAR main ayen gaye,

where as the AYAT says k JUB MOMINOO Ko Iqtidaar milay tu who Namaz parhtay hain, Zakat detay hain (apni zaat k kaam) AUR Naek kaamoon ka HUKAM detay hain aur Buray KAMOON say rookain gaye (social works).

On Page 5, writer refers to Surah Shoora Ayat 42:38

وَالَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُوا لِرَ‌بِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَمْرُ‌هُمْ شُورَ‌ىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَ‌زَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ

جو اپنے رب کا حکم مانتے ہیں، نماز قائم کرتے ہیں، اپنے معاملات آپس کے مشورے سے چلاتے ہیں، ہم نے جو کچھ بھی رزق انہیں دیا ہے اُس میں سے خرچ کرتے ہیں

Here writer has again translated وَالَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُوا لِرَ‌بِّهِمْ as Momineen who hain jo apnay rub ka Hukam maantay hain, aur apnay maamlaat mushwaray say hul kartay hain aur jo rizk hum nay unhain diya uss main say Kharch kartay hain

As you can see the writer has totally erased the translation of وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ

Next writer refers to Surah Hood ayat 11:84-87

وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا ۚ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّـهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُ‌هُ ۖ وَلَا تَنقُصُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ ۚ إِنِّي أَرَ‌اكُم بِخَيْرٍ‌ وَإِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ مُّحِيطٍ ﴿٨٤﴾ وَيَا قَوْمِ أَوْفُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ بِالْقِسْطِ ۖ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ أَشْيَاءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِي الْأَرْ‌ضِ مُفْسِدِينَ ﴿٨٥﴾ بَقِيَّتُ اللَّـهِ خَيْرٌ‌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ۚ وَمَا أَنَا عَلَيْكُم بِحَفِيظٍ ﴿٨٦﴾ قَالُوا يَا شُعَيْبُ أَصَلَاتُكَ تَأْمُرُ‌كَ أَن نَّتْرُ‌كَ مَا يَعْبُدُ آبَاؤُنَا أَوْ أَن نَّفْعَلَ فِي أَمْوَالِنَا مَا نَشَاءُ ۖ إِنَّكَ لَأَنتَ الْحَلِيمُ الرَّ‌شِيدُ ﴿٨٧

اور مدین والوں کی طرف ہم نے ان کے بھائی شعیبؑ کو بھیجا اُس نے کہا “اے میری قوم کے لوگو، اللہ کی بندگی کرو، اس کے سوا تمہارا کوئی خدا نہیں ہے اور ناپ تول میں کمی نہ کیا کرو آج میں تم کو اچھے حال میں دیکھ رہا ہوں، مگر مجھے ڈر ہے کہ کل تم پر ایسا دن آئے گا جس کا عذاب سب کو گھیر لے گا(84) اور اے برادران قوم، ٹھیک ٹھیک انصاف کے ساتھ پورا ناپو اور تولو اور لوگوں کو ان کی چیزوں میں گھاٹا نہ دیا کرو اور زمین میں فساد نہ پھیلاتے پھرو(85) اللہ کی دی ہوئی بچت تمہارے لیے بہتر ہے اگر تم مومن ہو اور بہر حال میں تمہارے اوپر کوئی نگران کار نہیں ہوں”(86) انہوں نے جواب دیا “اے شعیبؑ، کیا تیری نماز تجھے یہ سکھاتی ہے کہ ہم ان سارے معبودوں کو چھوڑ دیں جن کی پر ستش ہمارے باپ دادا کرتے تھے؟ یا یہ کہ ہم کو اپنے مال میں اپنے منشا کے مطابق تصرف کرنے کا اختیار نہ ہو؟ بس تو ہی تو ایک عالی ظرف اور راستباز آدمی رہ گیا ہے!”()87

Again writer has presented the ayat without the context, and claims that NAMAZ ALLAH ki Ibadat karnay aur Maal ko Kharch karnay ka HUKAM deti hai, I don’t have any objection on this claim but the writer has used the Ayat without context and twisted the meaning.

I have given the context and if you read the paragraph you can understand that Hazrat Shoaib AS first taught them basic concepts of Islam and then in response they said kya namaz yehi sikhati hai?

On Page 6,
The writer tries putting the false seed in readers mind, He tells the meaning of FAHASH, he states that FAHASH k meaning Araboon k haan Bay- Hayaaii k thay lekin iss ka mutlab kanjoosi karna hai

now this statement is wrong at two different levels,

  1. Quran says, yeh Quran tumhari taraf bheja gaya ussi Zaban main jo tum boltay ho, Arab Fahash ko Bay-Hayaii ki term main laitay thay, so this AYAT means Bay HAYAAII…not what the writer claims
  2. The writer says FAHASH ka lafz ف-ح-ش  say lia gaya jiss ka meaning BAKHL hai, as usual the writer has not given any reference to his proof, but when I do the research
    Fa-Ha-Shin = became excessive /immoderate /enormous /exorbitant/ overmuch/ beyond measure, foul/bad/evil/unseemly/indecency/abominable, lewd/gross/obscene, committing excess which is forbidden, transgress the bounds/limits, avaricious, adultery/fornication.

Now see the difference of meaning the root means excessive, the writer is trying to prove the root means Spending LESS , I guess even Mr. Yawar has never bothered to look for the root even in Lexicon which is easily available.

Next he tries to explain MUNKIR, but since the paragraph is very vague I am not researching into that, and I guess the Case of Page 6 clears out perfectly how The Writer Pervez Sahib has given his own meanings to words and our friends never tried to cross check the references produced.

Next the Writer refers to Surah Al Maoon, here the writer tries getting Social sympathy factor, he starts from Surah Maaoon, describes the Yateem and then in the concluding session (reference Page 8, Last Paragraph), he adds in EXTRA Words in the translation, and says “yeh woh log hain jinhoon nay salaat ko sirf Marai aur Mehsoos harkat (physical gestures) samjh lia hai”

Hence again it is evident that the writer is trying to Seed in His IDEAS by mixing WORDS of his choice in the translation and thus is trying to Confuse the reader and he succeeds well in this as by using this tactics he has confused many people so far.If you read the Surah Maaon you will see the word given in Arabic is الَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَ‌اءُونَ which is yeh woh log hain jo RAYA KARI kartay hain .

The one argument, Mr. Yawar has given earlier when I presented to him the real translation of Surah Maaon, is if RAYA KARI is Sin, and Namaz is said to stop from Sin, why don’t Namaz stops the RAYA KARI, for the purpose of clarification I will again present the ayat, Surah Hood, Ayat 15

مَن كَانَ يُرِ‌يدُ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا نُوَفِّ إِلَيْهِمْ أَعْمَالَهُمْ فِيهَا وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يُبْخَسُونَ

جو لوگ بس اِسی دنیا کی زندگی اور اس کی خو ش نمائیوں کے طالب ہوتے ہیں ان کی کار گزاری کا سارا پھل ہم یہیں ان کو دے دیتے ہیں اور اس میں ان کے ساتھ کوئی کمی نہیں کی جاتی

Hence proved, jo Log raya kaari kartay hoye namaz parhtay hain, un k saath b ALLAH PAK insaaf karta hai aur unhain woh day deta hai jiss k woh taalib hotay hain i.e. ON FACE credibility.

Next Page 10, the writer quotes Ayats 70:23-26, and again changes the translation of the ayats completely, he types in Arabic Ayats from 23-26 and the translation presented is of 24-26, i.e. again extracts meaning of his choice and leaves what he don’t want to tell people,the writer translates these ayats as: “yeh woh log hain Jo Jantay hain k unn k maaloon main haq hai Mangtay aur Bay Naseeb ka, yehi woh log hain jo Roz I Jazaa ki tasdeeq kartay hain “

Whereas the translation of Ayat 23-26 states : “yeh woh log hain jo hamesha apni namaz Qayam kartay hain , aur Jantay hain k unn k maaloon main haq hai Mangtay aur Bay Naseeb ka, yehi woh log hain jo Roz I Jazaa ki tasdeeq kartay hain “…

Hence, again proved that Writer is trying to confuse and USE the audience for his illicit purpose.

Page number 11, main again writer confuses the people, writer claims k agar asli SALAAT qaim ho tu Kanjoosi nahin ho sakti aur Buraii nahin ho sakti ,, but yahan woh Munafeqeen ko refer kartay hoye kehtay hain k woh Karahat kartay hoye Kharch kartay hain i.e. kanjosi kartay hain,

But I know Parwez sahib k mutasareen iss baat ko nahin maanain gaye so hum next step pay chalatay hain jahan Parwez sahib nay Word KASALI ko translate kia hai “Woh Taant jo Kumaan say Alag kar di gaye ho”

Again Parwez sahib nay ghalat word use kia, KASALI word ki roots KSL hain aur iss root say nikalnay walay tamam words ka mutlb laziness, bored etc hai reference k lie please open Lexicon Volume 7 section KSL.

Now Page 11, last paragraph, yahan Parwez sahib nay ek Ayat, 2:177 (Surah Baqra), bayan ki, jiss ko apni marzi k context main paesh kia,,, yeh ayaat Yahoodioon ki SALAAT/IBADAT main mojood problem ki taraf refer karti hai k since tum ALLAH k Nabioon aur Malaika par emaan nahin laaye aur uss k baad Islam k bunyaadi arkaan namaz zakat waghera mentioned hain,

Magar again Parwez sahib, apni marzi say ayaat ko paesh kartay hain aur apnay Reader ko confuse kartay hain kyun k issi confusion ki madad say woh apnay Jaan Nisaar paeda kartay thay.

Page number 12 pay Writer says IQAMAT I SALAAT ka mutlab yeh hai k Emaan laanay k baad apni dolat ko zaroorat mando aur muhtaajoon k lie khula rakhna. Aur iss k neechay woh ayat 4:43 quote kartay hain
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَقْرَ‌بُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنتُمْ سُكَارَ‌ىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَعْلَمُوا مَا تَقُولُونَ وَلَا جُنُبًا إِلَّا عَابِرِ‌ي سَبِيلٍ حَتَّىٰ تَغْتَسِلُوا ۚ وَإِن كُنتُم مَّرْ‌ضَىٰ أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ‌ أَوْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ مِّنكُم مِّنَ الْغَائِطِ أَوْ لَامَسْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا غَفُورً‌ا

aur kehtay hain k namaz k ilfaaz bghair samjhay dohraye jatay hain iss lie namaz is not salaat,, Ab iss ayat ki COMPLETE translation parhain

اے لوگو جو ایمان لائے ہو، جب تم نشے کی حالت میں ہو تو نماز کے قریب نہ جاؤ نماز اُس وقت پڑھنی چاہیے، جب تم جانو کہ کیا کہہ رہے ہو اور اسی طرح جنابت کی حالت میں بھی نماز کے قریب نہ جاؤ جب تک کہ غسل نہ کر لو، الا یہ کہ راستہ سے گزرتے ہو اور اگر کبھی ایسا ہو کہ تم بیمار ہو، یا سفر میں ہو، یا تم میں سے کوئی شخص رفع حاجت کر کے آئے، یا تم نے عورتوں سے لمس کیا ہو، اور پھر پانی نہ ملے تو پاک مٹی سے کام لو اور اس سے اپنے چہروں اور ہاتھوں پر مسح کر لو، بے شک اللہ نرمی سے کام لینے والا اور بخشش فرمانے والا ہے

Ab meray bhai jo kehtay hain k AQEEMO us SALAAT ka mutlab Dolat ko ghareeboon k lie open chorna hai tu iss ka mutlab hai k NASHAY ki halat main koi ghareeb nazar aaye tu us ki madad na karo, Janabat ki haalat main b ghareeb ki madad na karo , app beemar ho hospital main ho tu b kisi ko paisay na do (although beemari main sadqa dena chahiye) Rafa I Hajat karnay k baad b ghareebooon ki madad na karo…  yani ghareeb ki madad k lie insaan ko BAWUZOO hona chahiye,, ghalti say raat k waqt koi ghareeb ghur maangnay aa jaye tu ap ussay kahain k bhai 10 minute wait karo main Ghusal kar k Aata hoon phir app ko paisay doon ga…. Quite a logic isn’t it.

Ab Parwez sahib ka aetraaz hai k we don’t know k hum Namaz main kya keh rahay hain,, tu I beg to differ with that, k ek 7 saal k bachay say b app pochain k namaz main kya hai tu woh app ko bata daye ga k iss main ALLAH PAK ki tareef hai,, agar kisi 12-13 saal k bachay ko poochain gaye tu woh app ko translation b suna daye ga,, aur agar 10-20% aisay mill b jayen jinhain translation na aati ho tu atleast unhain namaz yaad ho g, aur again iss case main problem NAMAZ seekhanay walay main hain ,, NAMAZ main nahin ,,, theek waisay he jaisay KNIFE main problem nahin hai balkay KNIFE say QATAL karnay walay aur KNIFE say Khana bananay walay main difference hai…

Page number 13 pay writer sahib 180 degree shift laitay hain aur kehtay hain k jo NAMAZ hum adaa kartay hain woh ek rasam hai jo SAHABA k daur main hoti thi (I assume SAHABA k saath NABI PAK SAAW k daur main b hoti ho g) aur uss ko fixed time pay adaa kia jaata tha aur reference k lie woh present kartay hain Ayat 4:103 ,,, ab tak writer was saying tht SALAT means spending money for poor, now here writer says SALAAT was a gathering jiss ka maqsad ALLAH k AHKAAM k aagay sir jhukana tha…  aur yahan woh ek aur jumla b history say present kartay hain ALSALAAT ul JAMIYAA,,

Writer has spread so much confusion that at this point reader forgets to ask the basic question, k bhai Agar Salaat ka matlab Kharach karna tha tu ek dum say Salaat k meaning Gathering kaisay ho gaya?

Now another question arises is  SAHABA nay yeh rasm ki , perfect time par adaa ki,, aur since Hazrat UMAR RA k time pay Islam phel chukka tha iss ka mutlab hoa k yeh Rasam dosray mulkoon main b adaa ki gayee, jub k shoora tu sirf Madina main hoti thi, tu dosray mulk main gathering kiss purpose k lie ki gayee??  Again here he gives no reference and no proof to his study

Ek aur baat jo k aksar hazraat kehtay hain aur page 13 k pehlay paragraph main hai k ji NAMAZ ka lafz tu Persian hai , NAMAZ ka lafz Quran main hai he nahin so NAMAZ ki farziat b khatam,,, ab in hazraat say koi poochay k bhai NAMAZ ka lafz Persian hai tu ARABIC QURAN main kyun ho ga?? Aur agar translation main different word use honay say us ski farziat Khatam ho jaati hai tu bhai LIBAS ka lafz Quran main nahin hai iss ka mutlab ajj say Libas pehn’na bund…

Unfortunately, yeh hazraat hum pay tu research na karnay ka ilzaam lagatay hain magar khud iss pay amal nahin kartay, agar research karain tu inhain pata chalay k SALAAT ko urdu main Namaz, malyalam main  Niskaaram kehtay hain ,, ab NISKAARAM main Quran main definitely nahin dhoond sakta.

But yeh hazraat isi baat pay apna belief bana’ye bethay hain k NAMAZ ka zikar Quran main nahin hai ,,, ab next atay hain

Page number 14 pay, writer quotes the ayat of Surah Juma, 62:9
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلَاةِ مِن يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَاسْعَوْا إِلَىٰ ذِكْرِ‌ اللَّـهِ وَذَرُ‌وا الْبَيْعَ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ‌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٩

اے لوگو جو ایمان لائے ہو، جب پکارا جائے نماز کے لیے جمعہ کے دن تو اللہ کے ذکر کی طرف دوڑو اور خرید و فروخت چھوڑ دو، یہ تمہارے لیے زیادہ بہتر ہے اگر تم جانو

Again writer sahib, nay translation complete nahin ki aur iss ayat ko b apnay purpose k lie use karnay ki koshish ki hai

Page number 14 pay hi, surah Juma ki ayat ko quote karnay k baad writer sahib kehtay hain k Surah Maida main ayat 1-6 main mentioned hai k waseeyat waghera main koi tanaza ho tu gathering k baad fareeqoon ko rok lo aur maamla hul kar lo,, yahan writer bilkul theek kehtay hain but again yahan woh Quote kartay hain Surah Maida ko, jiss ki ayat 6 main Namaz say pehlay wuzoo ka tareeqa bataya gya hai.

Page 15 say page 21 tak writer condemns Sectism in Islam, which is definitely condemnable, and at the end, writer takes a U-Turn again and says Jub tak KHILAFAT qayam nahin ho jaati tub tak har firqa apnay apnay tareeqay say Namaz adaa karta rahay,,, ab again tamam hazraat jo namaz ko Parsiooon ki ibadat kehtay hain say sawal hai k kya yeh KHULAA TAZAAD nahin ,, k pehlay tu app aam awam ko NAMAZ k mutaliq ulti seedhi baatain batao aur end pay aa k keh do k yehi namaz parhtay raho,,,

Kya yeh behtar na hota k itni lambi book likhnay ki bajaye writer sirf awaam ko yeh bata detay k bhai NAMAZ jo kuch seekhati hai unhain masjid say bahir b apni life main implement karo, Imam/Leader ko follow karo, Sirf ALLAH k agay sir jhukao, ghareeb aur ameer main farq na rakho … Magar sirf itni si baat kehnay say tafarqa nahin phelaya ja sakta iss lie writer pehlay 14 pages main logoon ko confuse karta hai aur akhri 7 pages main khud ko Islam ka Khair  Khawa saabit kar k awam ki hamdardi laita hai.
